Vintage original 41.5 x 81.25 in. US re-release three-sheet poster from the two-reel silent film western drama, THE SHERIFF'S BABY, released in 1913 by the General Film Company, produced by the Biograph Company, and directed by D.W. Griffith.
Printed for the film's 1915 US theatrical re-release by the Biograph Company, this poster is a stone lithograph, which features bold, vivid colors and very fine details. The artwork depcits the sheriff (Alfred Paget) held at gunpoint by Lionel Barrymore while he holds a baby. A second ruffian (Henry B. Walthall ?) watches from the background. Professional restoration has addressed fold wear and separations, pinholes, tears, and small chips. There was a 1 - 2 in. tear along most of the border, but this does not affect the printing and has since been replaced, and the borders and white background have been airbrushed.
*"The Biograph Company, also known as the American Mutoscope and Biograph Company, was a motion picture company founded in 1895 and active until 1916. It was the first company in the United States devoted entirely to film production and exhibition, and for two decades was one of the most prolific, releasing over 3000 short films and 12 feature films. During the height of silent film as a medium, Biograph was America's most prominent film studio and one of the most respected and influential studios worldwide, only rivaled by Germany's UFA, Sweden's Svensk Filmindustri and France's Pathé. The company was home to pioneering director D. W. Griffith and such actors as Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish, and Lionel Barrymore."
