Vintage original 3.5 x 5.25 in. German postcard depicting the German silent film actress, ANITA DORRIS.
 
Best remembered as Trilby in the Terra-Filmkunst production of Svengali (1927). She is depicted in profile in a close publicity shot wearing a white dress against a white background. This postcard was inscribed in blue ink by Anita Dorris in 1926, the first year in which she appeared films, and she was featured in six productions that year. She inscribed this postcard on September 22, 1926 while in Wien, Germany. Printed in Germany, it is unused in very fine condition. 
 
Provenance: We purchased a collection of two albums of vintage original German postcards from a rare book dealer at an antiquarian book fair in Pasadena, California. Approximately half of the postcards were signed by the respective personalities and the ones that were dated by the actors are all dated "1926." We were informed by the dealer that these photographs came from a film collector in Germany who acquired the postcards at the time they were issued and then had them signed by the respective actors when he met them in person. 
 
*"Anita Dorris was born on December 21, 1903 in Lübeck, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany as Anita Dorothea Schmidt. She was a leading lady in filims such as Die Sache mit Schorrsiegel (1928), Frau Sopherl vom Naschmarkt (1926), Die Mühle von Sanssouci (1926), and is best remembered as Trilby in the Terra-Filmkunst production of Svengali (1927). A printer's daughter, she began on stage in 1921 as Anita Dorothea Schmidt and changed her name to Anita Dorris in 1926 after making her debut in motion pictures. Because of her acquaintance with Anton Kohl, she got her first engagement at the Stadttheater Eger. Although she never had acting lessons, she was able to expand her abilities in the next years and rapidly received more positive criticisms. Her promising career ended abrupt when she got married with director E.W. Emo (1898-1975) and retired from the screen at his request. She was the mother of actress Maria Emo and eventually died on December 24, 1993 in Vienna, Austria."
