Vintage original 8 x 10 in. US single-weight glossy photograph from the 1920s silent film drama, FORBIDDEN LOVE, released in 1921 by Playgoers Pictures and directed by Philip Van Loan.
 
The image is spectacular and depicts leading lady Marguerite Clayton naked in an all- glass bathtub as she raises a shapely leg to wash with a sponge. It is in near-fine condition as shown.
 
*"The 18 Dec 1920 Moving Picture World reported that Thomas DeVassey, vice-president of the National American Film Corp., had announced the completion of principal photography. Reviews in the 10 Apr 1921 Wid’s Daily, and the 16 Apr 1921 issues of Motion Picture News and Moving Picture World indicate that Forbidden Love may have debuted earlier that month, possibly in New York City where all three publications were headquartered.
 
Nearly five months later, the 6 Aug 1921 Motion Picture News announced that releasing company Playgoers Pictures Corp. was adjusting the rental cost of films they distributed through Pathé. The decision was intended to accommodate exhibitors who were losing business due to a series of heat waves.
 
Forbidden Love was listed in the article under its new title, Women Who Wait. The 8 Oct 1921 Exhibitors Herald revealed that the picture had been reissued on 16 Jul 1921. A news item in the 19 Feb 1921 Camera suggests that the title change might have been prompted by news of another recent production, also known as Forbidden Love, starring Wheeler Dryden and Audrey Chapman, and directed by R. Dale Armstrong. Originally titled The Crucifix of Destiny, the picture was released two months later as False Women (1921).
 
As stated in the 20 Aug 1921 Motion Picture News, the film opened the previous week in New Orleans, LA, followed by a Los Angeles, CA, debut during the week of 24 Sep 1921. Critical notices were unenthusiastic, with some questioning the logic of the revised title for a plot based on the biblical story of Cain and Abel. A review in the 3 Sep 1921 Moving Picture World identified Cape Cod, MA, as a filming location.
 
Harold and Peter Van Zandt, sons of New England fisherman John Van Zandt, are in love with Eileen Arden, who favors Harold, the younger and gentler brother. The jealous Peter convinces Eileen that Harold is circulating false rumors about her, then convinces his younger brother to move to Boston, Massachusetts. Six years later, John is unable to work so Harold returns to help support the family, finding employment as a lighthouse keeper. Peter becomes jealous once again, and his drunken rage results in the death of his child, Anne, whose weak heart is unable to withstand the excitement. After realizing that Eileen knows of his deceit years earlier, Peter attempts to kill Harold in the lighthouse, but instead falls to his own death during the ensuing struggle."
