Vintage original 3.5 x 5.25 in. German postcard featuring the attractive German actress MALY DELSCHAFT.

She is depicted in what we believe is a publicity shot with fellow German actor/director Leo Peukert as she sits behind the wheel of a vintage convertible. It was signed in black ink by Maly Delschaft and she noted "Berlin - 1926." Printed by the renowned Ross-Verlag company of Berlin, it is in very fine condition with some small random smudges in the borders. It is in outstanding condition for being sent through the German mail and the cancellation is dated May 6, 1926.

Note: This image could be from a German silent film released in 1925 or 1926, but we could only locate one collaboration between Maly Delschaft and Leo Peukert which was much later in 1938.

*"Martha Amalia "Maly" Delschaft (4 December 1898 – 20 August 1995) was a German stage and film actress. After beginning in theatre, Delschaft switched to silent films. She appeared in mainly supporting roles during the Weimar and Nazi eras. After the Second World War she worked in East Germany for the state-controlled studio DEFA."

*"A favorite leading lady of Emil Jannings (with whom she had starred in Der letzte Mann and Varieté) and of the director F.W. Murnau, Delschaft was at one time slated for the role of Lola-Lola in The Blue Angel (1930). However, with Murnau's departure to the U.S., Josef von Sternberg ended up taking over the reigns and installed his own protégé, Marlene Dietrich, in the part. Delschaft was actually considered by many to bear similarities to Dietrich in both appearance and manner.

Delschaft's voice was considered more than adequate to survive the transition to sound. However, by the early 30's, a number of contemporary reviews argued that her performances in silent films had been more effectively suggestive."
