Vintage original 8 x 10 in. US single-weight glossy photograph from the 1920's silent film comedy, MARQUIS PREFERRED, released in 1929 by Paramount Pictures and directed by Frank Tuttle. 
 
The image features an interior medium shot of the Marquis d’Argenville (Adolphe Menjou) inside of an elegant library as he points out a particular book to the smiling priest. As indicated by a rubber stamp on the verso, this photograph was taken by Hollywood photographer W.P. McPherson. It is in very fine- condition.
 
*"A studio chart in the 17 November 1928 Exhibitors Herald and Moving Picture World cited a starting date of 25 October 1928 for Marquis Preferred. According to information in the Paramount Produced Scripts Collection at the AMPAS Library, the title of Frederic Arnold Kummer's unpublished, original story was "Marrying the Marquis." Paramount records indicate that Ernest Vajda based his story on Kummer's.
 
Having squandered his fortune in the pursuit of pleasure, the Marquis d’Argenville finds that he is unable to pay his staff or his creditors. To recoup their money, the creditors decide to incorporate the marquis and have him sign an agreement to wed heiress Gwendolyn Gruger, the daughter of a wealthy American sausage maker. Their plan goes awry, however, when the marquis falls in love with Gwendolyn’s poor companion, Peggy Winton."
