Vintage original 8 x 10 in. US single-weight glossy photograph from the 1920s silent film drama/romance, ANNA ASCENDS, released in 1922 by Paramount Pictures and directed by Victor Fleming.

 

The image depcits cast members Nita Naldi, Charles Gerard, Florence Dixon, and Alice Brady as two others watch. It is fin near-fine condition with handwriting in the top border.

*"Star Alice Brady previously starred in Harry Chapman Ford’s stage play of the same title. Several sources, including the 20 May 1922 Moving Picture World, mentioned that Joseph Henabery, who directed the play, was set to also direct the film. However, the 21 Jul 1922 FD reported that Victor Fleming would helm the picture. Filming began at Paramount’s Long Island Studio in Astoria, Queens, New York, according to the 11 Aug 1922 FD. The 26 Sep 1922 FD announced that filming had “just completed.” The film’s national release date was 20 Nov 1922.

 

While working in Siad Coury’s coffeehouse in a Syrian neighborhood of New York City, Syrian immigrant Anna Ayyob falls in love with reporter, Howard Fisk, who is investigating a jewel smuggling ring. When she discovers that her co-worker, “The Baron,” is involved with international thieves Count and Countess Rostoff, Anna telephones Howard with the information, but the Baron attacks her. During the encounter, she believes she accidentally kills him, and disappears. Three years later, after anonymously writing a widely popular novel called Anna Ascends,  based on her own life, Anna again meets Howard Fisk. To save Howard’s sister, Bessie Fisk, from marrying Count Rostoff, Anna exposes the jewel thief and confesses to the Baron’s murder. Fortunately, Howard’s investigation discloses that the Baron is very much alive. Her named cleared, Anna marries Howard."
