Bill Higgins disturbs the peace of a little western mining town and causes Buck to wound him in a fight. Nursing Bill back to health, Buck learns that he lives in Peaceful Valley and has been banished from home by his wife for drinking. Buck arrives there in time to reprimand Williams, a crooked mine superintendent; and the owner, Joseph Martin, replaces Williams with Buck, "The Mediator." Williams induces the workers to strike and threatens to blow up the mine. Buck helps to avert the strike, thwarts a gold theft, and is rewarded with Maggie's promise to marry him. With peace declared in his household, Bill returns to town."
