Vintage original 8 x 10 in. US double-weight matte photograph from the 1920's silent film adventure/drama romance, THE SEA LION, released in 1921 by Associated Producers Inc. and directed by Rowland V. Lee.
The image features a close interior studio shot of the film's star, Hobart Bosworth, in costume and character as "John Nelson," along wioth his pipe. As indicated in the lower left corner, this photograph was taken by the renowned Hollywood photographer, Melbourne Spurr. It is in very fine condition.
*"The Sea Lion is a 1921 American silent adventure film directed by Rowland V. Lee, and starring Hobart Bosworth, Bessie Love, and Emory Johnson. It was produced and distributed by Associated Producers Incorporated. The team who worked on this film had previously made Lee's Blind Hearts (1921). The film has preserved in the collections of the Library of Congress, the UCLA Film and Television Archiveand the Pacific Film Archive. It is also in the public domain.
Scenes were filmed aboard the Fox, which was anchored off Balboa in Orange County."

*"The 6 May 1921 Var announced that actor Hobart Bosworth’s newly formed production company, Hobart Bosworth Productions, Inc., was “fully organized” and shooting its first production, The Sea Lion, on the Thomas H. Ince studio lot in Culver City, CA. According to an item in the 14 May 1921 Moving Picture World, Bosworth was expected to produce and act in six films per year for Ince. Previously, the 23 Apr 1921 Moving Picture World reported that location shooting was taking place at Santa Cruz Island off the coast of CA. An item in the 28 May 1921 Exhibitors Herald noted that location filming took place "in a driving gale off Catalina Island." Principal photography was completed by 21 May 1921, according to a Motion Picture News brief published that day, which stated that editing was underway. The Oct 1921 issue of The Photodramatist claimed The Sea Lion was still being edited at Ince facilities."
